Help Wanted (Coding Experience Needed)
Posted by reluttr on 12 May 2008
Hey guys, it's me, NEo Bazz. As some of you may know, we have been trying to transition the shoutbox into a CGI:IRC client. But we need someone who knows Perl to be able to finish this. The work shouldn't be too hard, as we only need slight modifications. It's just that none of us here know Perl, so we are out of luck by ourselves.
If any visitors of this site know Perl and are willing to help, it would be GREATLY appreciated. To help, please contact me in our IRC (irc.ircstorm.net #ndsroms), or E-mail me at NEo_Bazz@hotmail.com.
Milestone: 2300 DS GAMES!!!! PAR-TEEEEY!!! (+ Updates)
Posted by Kaze Kyou on 12 May 2008
Hey guys and girls! Woohoo! Today marks the day 2300, YES, 2300 DS games that exist in the world as of now. Let us celebrate with a few CAKES and PIES! and dance to the following post on what new games came out today!!!
-------------------------------- NEWEST RELEASES -------------------------------- 2300 - Sudoku DS (K) LINK
..... Ooooh, anti-climatic. Korean Sudoku, as oxymoron as an orange apple.
Well, even when you take a look at the realistic amount of DS games, there's still quite a lot to be amazed about! Say that there are three main regions in the gaming world: Japan, US and Europe. Many games are released in these three variations. Furthermore, Korea and specific European countries get their own games, so in actual fact we have about 700-800 unique, stand-alone games! And that's quite a lot. So THERE IS a cause for celebration. PAAAARTEEEEEY!!!
It's been missing for a while, so here it is! The next exciting episode of MAILBOX TIME GET! complete without the cheezy voice-over!
-------------------------------------------------------- MAILBOX TIME GET! Vol. 4 -------------------------------------------------------- THE CAKE WARS CONTINUE [by mudkip621] Q: I side with Kaze Kyou on the cake discussion. The cake is not a lie and the answer to life is not 42. In fact, I think the answer to life and as everyone should now know that the answer to the ultimate life on exile broken by horrible superstar games from Sega and a Mario game that tells you about something different than OUR PRINCESS IS IN ANOTHER BLEEPIN CASTLE!!!!!!!!
Ladies and Gentleman the answer to life and death is...... PIE!!!
So know you see maybe the cake is a lie but the pie isn't.
A: Erm, so what was your point? Oh, cake is the answer to life, whereas pie is the answer to life and death? Fair enough, your opinion, but you've just added fuel to Cake Ninja and Samurai Pie's hatred for each other! Now their battle will reach epic proportions!
R4 AND THE GBA (by mangakid192) Q: Hi Kaze, I was just wondering. Does the R4 have the ability to play GBA roms? I've been getting mixed answers: Some say yes you can, some say no. What's the real answer?
A: Hi mangakid! Currently, there's no way of getting GBA roms onto your R4, M3, Cyclo, TTDS or any other card for that matter. However, some people may have been mislead because of an article, where a homebrew programmer managed to theoretically get around the DS' limitations to be able to run a GBA rom. In practice, it's still impossible, but time will eventually allow us to play GBA on our R4s etc.
Well, that's it for today. Have a tiiiiiiiime!!!!!!! ™ and see you next news update!

The NDS-Roms News Team: JUSTICE FIGHTERS!
Posted by Kaze Kyou on 10 May 2008
Hey guys and girls! Wow, it's been quite some time since the site's last news update, but here's one to appeal to your insanity once again! The news team was very busy last week and as a result the news page was neglected. Never fear: we're not down, and the ROMs database will always have new games updated, even if the news is not.
Before I shed a little secret to what's been happening, here's a little sneak peak of the newest three games out on this site. From now on, rather than ridiculously posting 10 games on my already HUGE posts, I'll keep it small:
-------------------------------- NEWEST RELEASES -------------------------------- 2297 - My Riding Stables (E) LINK 2298 - Shrek Orchetti e Ciuchini (I) LINK 2299 - Hurry Up Hedgehog (E) LINK
Okay, so what in the world happened to the NDS-Roms news team during the news haitus? Here's a low-down of what's been going on:
Cake Ninja: His absence is explained by his mysterious ability to appear and disappear at will. After all, he is a Ninja with special Cake powers. He was also last seen in an epic battle with Samurai Pie, which whom will also pop into the news team every now and then for some feature articles.
Captain C: The man so cool that he only needs to have one letter before his "captain" title, Captain C has been saving the world from n00bs with his pro-recommendations. He's travelled to the third world countries, recommending everything from switching to democracy, teaching kids to type on the internet the correct way, and recommending warriors in how to get the Triforce. If Captain C had a triforce piece, it would be wisdom. Currently, he's in an unknown location (presumably helping and transforming an obscure country), but may be back this week or the next.
Boblen: The man responsible for keeping the site servers up, Boblen has been fending off viruses, lockdowns and crashes: Common enemies of NDS-Roms. Using his special "Boblen-fu" (what the hell is CAR-FU anyways, huh? *cough* "Speed Racer" *cough*), Boblen has used his ancient martial art to fend off the offenders, and keep this site running for all you people out there. Give it up for the man: Currently, he's roundhouse-kicking the impending bugs ready to take down NDS-Roms and sister site, Wii-Isos. Who needs Chuck Norris? HIIIYA!!!
Vinnymac: Last update, we saw Vinnymac post a story about the new iTouch DS Flash Card, new on the market. What looked like an innocent DS card turned out to be the disk holding the secret files of the United Territories of Ausmerica (a hidden continent unviewable unless its electromagnetic shield turns off *cough* like a certain TV show *cough*). Apparently, the iTouchDS Flash card contained files detailing the UTA's plans for world domination, and Vinny has been sent on a mission to infiltrate the country, take out its mecha machine, and defeat his genetic twin brother, Vinnyking. He'll be back after his mission to review the real thing though.
Kangrus: Kangrus the man is NDS-Roms' very own ROMS archeologist: His uncanny ability to find Roms when he searches for them is astounding, and has recently been on a trip to find certain Crystal Skulls, in LEGO form. Granted, he hasn't found it yet but when the time comes, it'll be out and Kangrus will catalogue it in his database. Currently he is still waiting to find these LEGO Crystal Skulls, complete with his trademark hat, whip and vivacious theme song, and recently discovered an artifact that dates back to the Phoenix Wright days. However, this artifact seemed like a European variant of the American "Apollo Justice" artifact he found a month or so.
So guys, keep playing those DSes and never stop gaming! Hopefully I'll be in to update the news a bit more often, but as you can see The NDS-Roms News Team are real people, and are mostly busy with their other commitments. We'll all chip in, but for now Have a tiiiiiiiime!!!!!!! ™ and see you next news update!

DAMN YOU NINJA! Okay, the sneaky Cake Ninja somehow deleted our news, but as to how or why is another matter altogether. Anyhoo, we're still continuing our news posts, so there's no need to worry (I HAVE INVADED YOUR KEYBOARD! -Cake Ninja). Or is there?
So anyways, a few games have come out since the last update, though posting them all here would be overkill. Here's the three newest games that have come on this site:
2266 - Cory in the House (U) LINK 2267 - Dream Pinball 3D (U) LINK 2268 - River King - Mystic Valley (U) LINK
Today, we have a special guest with us (What, me? -Cake Ninja)! Metrololo (Pfft. I'm better! -Cake Ninja) is a special writer, and has written for many publications such as newspaper and print giants, "The New Pork Spaces", "Gamers Digest" as well as internet gaming websites Eye GN and GameSlop. We're honoured to have him in our TEAM OF RANDOM(Yeh, led by me. -Cake Ninja) and he's got some opinion pieces that will hopefully challange you and your perceptions in gaming!
------------------------------------------------ RANDOM RANT: DS and its Audience? ------------------------------------------------ There's not a lot of space, so I'll keep my opinion piece short. As we all know, the DS is completely obliterating current generation consoles. With a user-install base currently rivalling that of the PS2, the DS has helped Nintendo dig themselves out of their hole. But with their new business strategy, one has to ask: Who are Nintendo's main audience?
We, as gamers, are passionate about our gaming and love our long, epic experiences. When it comes to the DS, however, many outsiders tag it as a console that doesn't cater to traditional gamers. When you take this statement and compare it to the kinds of games that are available for "casual" gamers, it isn't hard to see why such observations have been made. Is there a problem with this?
Perhaps there is, but there's no denying the "casual" appeal of the DS' gaming library has contributed to its success. Had Nintendo stuck with their guns and released games according to their old business models, there's doubt that they would have survived for as long as they have. Casual gaming has been a wonderful thing for the industry and will help make it grow.
But what of those who have devoted themselves to gaming from the very start? Those who flame other people in fanboy wars, those who come home from work/school and start playing, those who have fond memories of gaming? Has Nintendo completely ignored them in order to capitalise on this uncharted audience that is the "casual market"?
When looking at the list of games for the DS, one could argue that we aren't being left out at all. For every 5 brain training games, there will always be gems such as Phoenix Wright, Zelda, Mario Kart, Ninja Gaiden, The World Ends with You and the Final Fantasy series, to name some. While the amount of casual games overshadow the more traditional games in terms of ratio, numbers indicate that there are just as much "gamer" games as there have been in every console, and that's something to be relieved about.
Nintendo still hasn't lost their hardcore audience from their sights. In fact, they're still giving out some love by starting trends (Brain Training, Nintendogs), then focusing on games that we love them for. The amount of casual games are the result of imitators wanting to catch some of the action Nintendo got by releasing those kind of games. Upon further analysis, Nintendo has gotten back on track after establishing DS' brand, and are now focusing on games for those of us who have loved gaming all along.
So, even though it seems we're being shunned by this new audience, the truth is our kind of games are buried under the large of amount of Brain imitators and Dog simulators. We have not been forgotten, so keep enjoying your gaming life!
Okay, that's all the space we have for today. Remember, make sure to have fun, and Have a tiiiiiiiime!!!!!!! ™
